Proud To Be Rainy
I came across this phrase stenciled on the sidewalk at Kerry Park while walking around Queen Anne hill today. It was a really wet weekend - wetter than most - and frankly I thought twice about going out since I got soaked on Saturday, but if I stayed in whenever it rained I wouldn't get much walking done.
Saturday started out to be a fairly decent morning with just a sprinkling of rain. I took my Lensbaby Velvet 85 with me hoping to capture some interesting shots. I was looking for flowers, but I thought that this old garage window was compelling. I used a little bit of Topaz Impressions to give it more of a painterly look.
I did capture a few flowers and ferns, although about halfway through my walk it started to pour. I mean really pour.
I continued to walk and take photos, but then my camera stopped working. For some reason the shutter in my Canon 6D malfunctioned and I ended up having to ship it to the service center later in the day. Disappointing, but at least I have my Canon 60D as a backup.
This morning was also wet and I almost didn't go, but I forced myself. Bundled up for the rain, I decided to take my Canon Powershot G5X with me. It has been a while since I have used it, so it took me a bit to get adjusted.
It takes good photos and with a few adjustments in Lightroom and adding one of Kathleen Clemons' textures, it created a good image. I missed my Lensbaby lenses, but I was pleased with the outcome.
The flowers are starting to bloom, which is great. I was surprised however to see these wonderful orange blossoms so early. The raindrops add so much.
I will be honest. I got pretty wet while walking this weekend, which wasn't fun, so I don't know if I would go so far as to endorse the phrase that Seattle is "proud to be rainy," but I enjoyed the fresh, clean air and the vivid colors of the flowers.
