Getting Out of Town

This weekend I went to Whidbey Island, a 15-minute ferry ride north of Seattle. Although it wasn't a long trek, it felt like I was a long way from home. It was good to breathe in the fresh air, take in the water views, and go Camera Walking.

I took several lenses with me because I knew that I wanted to experiment a bit. The first afternoon I pulled out my zoom lens only to discover that it was my Canon 24-105. I thought I was bringing my Tamron 28-300mm lens, so at first I was a bit disappointed until I captured the image above. I was reminded how wonderful this lens is and how rich the colors are right out of the camera. I was in love again with this old friend.

The rest of the weekend I decided to play with my Lensbaby Velvet 56 mm lens to see what it could do with the views along my walk. In contrast to the crisp, realistic capture of my Canon lens, the Velvet transformed my early morning walk into beautiful, glowing images. I love the dreamy look.

I came across some birds, including a heron, along the dock and I was able to capture the stillness of the morning.

As I made my way along the waterfront, I was captivated by the water, the early morning colors, and the scenery.

Although this is a residential area, there were some interesting old buildings next to the road. I took this at f2.8.

I kept my eye out for the morning light as the sun came up. These trees were so brilliant in the sun.

As I made my way back to my destination, I came across this playful sign on the side of a produce truck. I thought it was a good reminder to go home and finish my walk with some fruits and vegetables, which I did.

It felt good to get out of town and go Camera Walking. I enjoyed discovering my old friend, the Canon 24-105 mm lens, and experimenting with my Lensbaby Velvet 56 mm lens. Both gave me new perspectives while out capturing images.
