Walking as Creative Fuel

This was the title of a recent blog post on Daily Good that highlighted several well known authors who wrote about how walking generates creativity. We now know from research that walking benefits us in many ways, but it is always interesting to see that through the ages people have recognized the importance of walking to fuel creativity.

I know that walking with my camera fuels my creativity, especially if I go to a new spot. This weekend I took a walk along the canal north of the hill where I live with my Lensbaby Sweet 50. It borders another fun neighborhood, Fremont.

All along the canal there are benches for people to stop, rest, and contemplate.

I walked across the bridge to access the other world that we call Fremont. The view looking west is always interesting.

This weekend the grey skies were brightened by the colors of the bridge.

And on the north side of the bridge Rapunzel was looking after all people traveling across it.

Fremont is known for many things, such as the location of several tech companies - Google and Getty Images - and artists, but also for its rather bohemian style. There are a number of unusual structures, such as the Fremont Rocket.

And then there is the Lenin statue that was shipped from Eastern Europe decades ago and still stands.

In addition to the quirky sights, there is a statue that is situated on a traffic divider called Waiting for the Interurban that people are always decorating for the holidays.

After walking around the neighborhood, I headed back to the Queen Anne side and encountered some interesting paintings on a building.

They are fanciful and actually well done. I think this one next to the stairs seems to be anticipating someone taking a fall.

I came back from my walk invigorated and my mind was clear and ready for the day. I hope you get an opportunity to get out with your camera for a walk to fuel your creativity. I love hearing from you, so comment below, post on Camera Walking's Facebook page, or send me an email.
