Tis the Season

This is the time of year that I love capturing holiday lights. I am always amazed how my neighbors decorate their homes - some very traditionally with a wreath, while others let their playful spirit emerge like the snowman below.

This photo taken with my Lensbaby Velvet 56 didn't capture the seals that were decorated with lights on top of their garage. Really!

As you probably noticed, I love my Lensbaby creative lenses. I use them for flowers, portraits, and increasingly for landscapes, but this is a perfect time of year to use the Creative Bokeh optic and Twist 60. I decided to tour Chihuly Garden and Glass, located at the Seattle Center, to see what I could find. From the moment I entered I knew that this was going to be fun!

If you have been to a Chihuly exhibit, you know that there are beautiful pieces of glass staged wonderfully. The Creative Bokeh optic has discs that turn highlights into shapes, such as stars, that make the glass even more magical.

Now how can you not feel happy and in the holiday spirit with all of those stars? This photo below is one of my favorites. I love his boats stuffed with glass balls.

As I made my way through the exhibit I was drawn to the highlights reflecting off of the glass.

Even the light colored glass sculptures were full of stars.

Once outside in the garden I used a different disc, a starburst, to capture some interesting shots. I took the image below wide open to get this blurred look.

Using my Twist 60 I captured the Space Needle and, if you look close, my camera in this glass piece.

The exhibit has a hot shop to demonstrate glass blowing. I used my Twist 60 for this image.

And the back of the trailer was full of color and shapes, including starbursts.

After leaving the Garden and Glass exhibit, I made my way to the Center House for its Winter Wonderland celebration. They have recreated a small village with trains that make great subjects.

I had a wonderful afternoon playing with my creative lenses and getting into the holiday spirit. I hope you can get out and capture some holiday lights this season. I love hearing from you, so comment below, post on Camera Walking's Facebook page, or send me an email.
