Friends and Flowers

This weekend I was sharing my photos with a very good friend who loves beautiful flower gardens. I was commenting that I was having a hard time finding new places along my walks to capture different types of flowers. She picked up the phone and called her friend, Nita-Jo Rountree, author of Growing Roses in the Pacific Northwest: 90 Best Varieties for Successful Rose Gardening, and asked if I could come and take photos of her garden. She agreed, so this morning, after my walk, I drove to her place.

Her garden is colorful and rich with flowers that I am familiar with, such as these dahlias.

She also has a variety of lilies that covered much of her front garden. They were all so beautiful!

I loved this lily with the water drops hanging from the petals.

And there were several flowers that I am not familiar with, but enjoyed capturing.

I only brought my Lensbaby Velvet 85 lens with me, which was helpful to reach into the garden to take images of flowers that weren't close to where I was standing. I am always very careful to respect the boundaries of the garden. I didn't want to step on a plant to get closer.

It hasn't rained in weeks, so I appreciated that the garden had recently been watered. Water drops add so much to the image.

I did add textures to some of the photos to help smooth out the background and put the focus on the flower.

I am grateful to my friend for setting up this opportunity, and to Nita-Jo for growing such a beautiful flower garden. I enjoyed my early morning trip and will continue to seek out other places to take more images of flowers. I love hearing from you, so comment below, post on our Facebook page, or send me an email.
