Exploring Seattle's Neighborhoods

Once a month or so my good friend Dina and I take a walk in a different area of our region and combine it with brunch. Today we went to the Madrona neighborhood. It is one of our older sections of the city named after the native trees that covered the hillside. Madrona was the perfect place to settle for early Seattleites and today for many of the young families and singles that reside there.

I love exploring neighborhoods and we were not disappointed by what we encountered. Madrona has a small business area surrounded by interesting residences of all kinds.

On the main street cafes and residences co-exist. The red siding on this building popped.

We found some lovely homes as we walked around the neighborhood, and some interesting ones as well. I would feel well protected if I lived in this home with the gargoyles guarding the front steps while overlooking Lake Washington and the city of Bellevue.

There were a number of impressive front gates. I loved the red and taupe theme with the winding stairs at this home.

And I tired to imagine what it would be like to go through this gate every morning. It seemed so mysterious.

As we made our way around a small section of Madrona, we came across this house with the color coordinated flowers and bus. I love purple, so it was a treat.

This lone chair with the newspaper sitting beside it was just waiting for someone to sit down and read. Perhaps another time.

Walking to our destination for brunch we came across this fun tree of birdhouses. It certainly brightened up the street and our walk.

We ended our exploration at our friend's restaurant that he recently bought, St. Cloud's. We got there early, which turned out to be a good thing since it is Father's day in the U.S. We had a wonderful breakfast, conversation, and had a chance to congratulate our friend Michael. If you are in the area check out his restaurant. It is worth the trip.

Although I primarily walk around my own neighborhood, I really enjoyed exploring Madrona. We will be back because Michael told us that there is a path that will take us down to Lake Washington and a beach. Take the opportunity to walk in different areas of your city. It is a great Camera Walking experience. We love to hear from you, so comment below, post on our Facebook page, or send us an email.
