Tulip Walking
Last week a friend and I went to Skagit Valley, just an hour drive north of Seattle, to see the tulip fields. Although I thought it was the end of the season, since the tulip festival goes until April 30th, the tulips were actually at their peak. In just a couple of hours we had a good Camera Walking experience.

One of the challenges of such a beautiful place is getting photos without all of the hoards of people that come to enjoy the colors. We decided to head out early and as a result we didn't have as many people as we would have encountered in the afternoon.

There are two public places where you can wander around the fields. We started out at Tulip Town and were rewarded with several fields of beautiful color.

Although it is tempting to just take wide angle shots of the fields, it was fun to find some creative photos along the way, such as this box of tulips. Since it was Monday, the workers were in the fields picking tulips for sale.

We also went to RoozenGaarde, a much larger operation. They had both colorful fields, but some very interesting gardens to walk through planted with many varieties of tulips.

I took most of my photos with my Canon 6D and Tamron 28-300mm lens. By doing so, I had much more flexibility to get the wide angle and close up shots.

I also enjoyed the fields that had already been picked.

And one of the things that made this day more special was the sky. It has been so grey and overcast in our area that seeing puffy clouds and sun was a treat.

Overall it was a delightful morning, and I appreciated seeing and capturing the tulips while they were in full bloom.

This trip satisfied my need for flower photos for the moment, although I am looking forward to the blossoms coming soon in my neighborhood. For those of you who live in Washington State, both Tulip Town and RoozenGaarde have extended the season through May 7th! Take advantage of this opportunity to capture some fun photos.
