Finding Neighborhood Gems
This week I was called for jury duty and was selected for a trial, so I was closeted in the King County Courthouse all week. I did get to walk everyday to and from the courthouse, but I didn't have much chance to do my normal Camera Walking around my neighborhood. I did go out for one short walk during lunch to capture a few photos in Pioneer Square with my iPhone, such as this one of the Iron Pergola.
But it wasn't until this weekend that I got a chance to walk my neighborhood in search of images. It felt so good! I didn't realize that I had missed it so much. Unfortunately the weather was wet, the sky was grey, so the city views were not very interesting.
In fact it was the kind of morning where the sky and the water blend together.
With my Canon Powershot G5X, I focused on finding gems in the neighborhood by not looking up, but looking around me. I was so happy to see one of my favorite subjects, a window in an old garage, with blossoms. Spring is near!
Someone who lives along my walk has a good sense of humor. I love walking by this rubber ducky - it always makes me smile.
One of the reasons I like to walk with my Canon G5X is that it has a zoom lens (24-100mm) and a setting for macro images. I love the flexibility of being able to take a close up shot, such as the one below, as well as full frame images.
Sometimes I get bored with my walks on top of Queen Anne, one of the seven major hills in Seattle, but this weekend I was reminded that there are always interesting shots if you look for them.
I loved the above shot. When I took it I envisioned a painting. I edited it in Lightroom then in Topaz Labs Impression 2. I edited the below photo of a mask in Lightroom and Macphun's Luminar. Great colors on a rainy day.
Your neighborhood most likely holds many gems that you can capture on your walk, so grab your camera and go out Camera Walking. We love to hear from you, so please comment below, post on our Facebook page, or send us an email.
