Capturing the Joy of the Holidays

This year the holiday season is even more festive as Hanukkah, Christmas, and Kwanzaa all begin December 24th, 25th, and 26th ending with New Year's Eve! It is a time of celebration, reflection, and appreciation for our families, friends, and ourselves. It is also a wonderful time to capture the joy of the season in our photographs, such as this great photo of Michelle's dog Barley waiting for Christmas.

In addition to taking photos of our families and friends, venture out and see what others in your community are doing to celebrate. The decorations on your neighbors' homes can be delightful. I love this dog watching over his decorated home in the photo below.

The light coming from this church was so inviting that I decided to use my Tamron 24-300mm lens, so that I could capture the glow.

Attending a community festival, like the Seattle Center's Winterfest, is a great way to capture photos of the child in all of us. I love both the dad and child taking in the sights.

Even if the weather isn't great you can play with your editing tools to create an artistic image. I turned this photo of the Space Needle, with its Christmas tree, into a black and white image. Using Topaz Labs Impressions 2, I was able to get a more dreamy look. Fun!

Look for the beautiful and zany ways that people decorate, such as this old Studebaker that I walk by often.

And this wreath in the window of one of my favorite houses along my walk.

Regardless of which holiday you are celebrating we hope you enjoy this season, and get out Camera Walking to capture the joy in your photos. Happy Holidays!
