Walk, Point, Click, and Shoot

When we started Camera Walking our main focus was to get people moving by walking with their camera. Over the years we have written about the benefits of walking and shared information that hopefully would inspire our readers to get up and out for a walk. We are still convinced that walking is one of the best exercises, and this recent article in Forbes gives us six reasons why walking is the daily brain medicine we really need. Walking does matter, so we will continue to share new information and photos to inspire you to get moving.

Along the way though, we realized that many of you want to learn how to be better photographers. If you look back at our posts you will see a wide range of topics on how to increase your skills. I am always on the search for advice and inspiration that could be useful, so I was particularly curious about this video I found on how to use visual exercises to become more photo aware. Take six minutes and watch. It is worth it.

Sean Tucker, the commercial photographer who made this video, has some pretty interesting perspectives. “Just like owning a paint brush doesn’t make you an artist, owning a camera does not necessarily make you a good photographer.”

He goes on to say that, “Developing yourself as a human being, learning about the world around you, living an interesting life, learning to see and notice what’s really around you so you can express it, this is what develops the great photographer in you.” I totally agree! The other day I captured this shot with my iPhone during my lunch hour. It is actually a pretty boring place, but I noticed the stairs and fire escape and saw something interesting in that. With some editing, I was able to produce the image that was in my mind's eye that day.

He ends the video with this: “My challenge to you is to walk the space around you. Get out of the car, get off the bus, walk and interact with life while it’s happening.” He is doing Camera Walking, just as you and I do every day.

If you want more inspiration, then watch this short video featuring David Powell's photos of Tokyo. He starts with "I just walk. I walk a lot sometimes."

So that is what Camera Walking is about - Walk, Point, Click, and Shoot. Grab your camera and go out for a walk today. You will be enhancing your health, fitness, and expanding your creativity. We love to hear from you, so please post below, on our Facebook page, or send us an email.
