Get Moving - It's Walktober!

October is National Walking Month! Walktober is a campaign to get people out walking for the month and beyond. This is a good time to jump start your walking or inspire you to get started. Walking brings so many benefits.

Walking is a good way to get fit. There is so much evidence that walking, even just 30 minutes five times a week, can have a positive impact on our health. It takes only 10,000 steps to get in five miles of walking. If you cannot go for a long walk, try walking in shorter increments - it all adds up.

Walking increases your happiness. Cooler temperatures make October a great time for a refreshing walk. Research continues to demonstrate that when we walk, especially in nature, it reduces stress and increases our positive outlook.

Exercise slows the aging of the brain. Studies show that exercise can help slow the aging in our brains. According to another recent report, regular walking may substantially reduce the risk of Alzheimer’s.

Walking boosts creativity. October, with its rich colors, is especially a wonderful time for Camera Walkers. There are abundant photo opportunities to capture along the way.

The October light warms up all subjects.

You can capture Halloween pumpkins decorating the neighborhood.

And the skies are often quite dramatic.

You will not only get a great walk, but will achieve better health, fitness, and creativity! So grab your camera and go out Camera Walking to celebrate Walktober!
