Holiday Camera Walking

This is the time of year when sitting close to a fire instead of going out on a walk feels like the right thing to do. Depending upon where you live, you may be dealing with snow, ice, or if you live in the Northwest, rain - lots of it. But on the plus side it is the holiday season with beautiful displays and lights to enjoy, so it is a great time to go Camera Walking.

To get the best shots go out early in the morning or at dusk to capture the holiday lights. I love walking through my neighborhood appreciating the decorations.

In addition to walking around your neighborhood, investigate the public holiday displays that are available in your city. Make a date with your camera and friends to go on a special walking excursion to enjoy the lights.

Malls, parks, and other outdoor spaces often have holiday celebrations that are worthy of a visit. Explore the botanical gardens in your city, such as the Garden d'Lights hosted by the City of Bellevue. Closer to home, the Seattle Center hosts Winterfest, a fun place for kids and adults alike.

It is just a short, but heathy, walk from the Seattle Center to downtown with wonderful places to explore, like the Fairmont Hotel's Teddy Bear Suite.

Another fun place to explore is public markets. In Seattle we are fortunate to have the Pike Place Market, always a terrific place to wander through, but during the holidays it is an especially colorful place to go Camera Walking.

Remember that despite the weather, this is a great time of year to go out Camera Walking. Plan a special outing, or explore your neighborhood to enjoy and capture the holiday lights. Just remember that sitting by the fire will feel even better after your walk, and you can browse our new shop for terrific Camera Walking gifts. We appreciate your support.
